The story
The Park historically descends from the hunting reserve which was established by the House of Savoy in the middle of the last century. In 1856 the constitution of the reserve took place. Between 1860 and 1900, 325 kilometers of mule tracks were built or renovated, connecting five “royal hunting lodges” located at an altitude of 2000-2200 m. Among these, the park still has that of Orvieille, in Valsavarenche, and that of the Gran Piano di Noasca, in Valle Orco, used for surveillance and research.
Furthermore, the latter was the subject of restructuring by the Institution, with the concession of part of the structure as an unmanaged hiking refuge, used for guided user flows, carrying out trekking, mountain approach activities, training courses/ updates, nature stays or other initiatives compatible with the aims of the Park
We will also have the opportunity to admire the typical wildlife of the Gran Paradiso National Park in its natural environment, such as ibex, chamois, eagles, bearded vultures, marmots and many others!
The Casa di Caccia refuge is the perfect base for various treks in the Gran Paradiso Park, and a crossing point for the well-known GTA (great crossing of the Alps), AVC (Alta Via Canavesana) and Giroparco Gran Paradiso paths.
